Swedish pulp and paper industry interested in project results

BillerudKorsnäs focuses on offering the packaging market sustainable materials (world-leading paper and board material) and solutions that increase customers’ profitability while at the same time improving the overall environmental impact

Innovative packaging not only protects the food it carries, but can be instrumental in preserving the environment and solving the food waste issue.

Helén Williams, PhD, is a lecturer at Karlstad University and co-author of The role of packaging in minimising food waste in the supply chain of the future. The report highlights the state of the world in 2050 as the population approaches 9 billion and the demand for food has increased by 77%.

Towards a sustainable and bio-based society
BillerudKorsnäs’ business is based on our renewable raw material: the forest. In order to be able to convert to a sustainable and bio-based society, it is crucial that we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and energy sources.

Taking the ever-growing forest as our starting point, we work continuously to boost the transition to a sustainable and bio-based society. We ensure this by supplying high-quality, bio-based packaging materials to people all over the world. An increasing population, combined with rising prosperity, inevitably boosts demand for those products we hold most dear: renewable and recyclable packaging that helps reduce waste.

BillerudKorsnäs’ ambition is for our products to have a positive impact on society. One way for us to apply positive influence is by working closely with companies and other organisations at both local and global level. Collaboration of this kind is crucial to achieving a sustainable society, where more emphasis than today is placed on the potential of renewable material. By working together, it is possible to create both social and environmental societal value.
