The Company generates 5% of all electricity in Portugal.

The Navigator Company is today one of Portugal’s strongest presences in the world, playing a structuring role for the national economy by vertically integrating its business model: applied research, forestry, cellulose pulp, renewable energy, paper and tissue.

Industrially, Cacia Industrial Complex produces approximately 320,000 tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp per year; Figueira da Foz produces approximately 570,000 tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp and 800,000 tons of fine paper printing and writing uncoated per year; Setúbal Complex produces about 550 tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp following the kraft process per year, and Vila Velha de Ródão produces each year, approximately 60 thousand tons of Tissue paper, converted into finished products for home and professional use.

Responsible Forestry Management

The Navigator Company is the leading private sector forestry operator in Portugal, managing 120 thousand hectares of woodlands on an efficient and responsible basis. The Company’s forestry policy, reflected in its own Code of Good Forestry Practice, is clear evidence of its concern for conserving the country’s woodlands, which provide the source material for its business cycle.

The Company seeks to respect and conciliate the environmental, social and economic interests at stake in decisions on woodlands management, and does this by applying technical procedures which involve assessing the risks and opportunities and mitigating the impact of forestry operations.

The Company’s approach to sustainability management is founded on its Sustainability Policy and on other policies which address its main environmental, social and economic risks and opportunities.

The sustainability policy commits The Navigator Company to applying the principles of accountability, transparency and citizenship, without forgetting that business viability is another crucial component of Company strategy.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Our sustainability policy comprises a number of commitments which guide our decisions, starting with a commitment to sustainable development, which is understood as a coordinated quest for economic prosperity, environmental responsibility and a fair society.

In order to achieve this, we continue to invest in reducing the environmental impact of our operations, in talent and in health and safety for our workforce, in dialogue with our local communities and in a constant search for innovative products and services.

Our vision of sustainability also includes the commitment to actively encouraging all our partners and stakeholders to work alongside us in our quest for sustainable development.”
