Processum

Involvement in the project

SP Processum will take part in the chemistry development in WP4 (Real scale demonstration of the circular value chain). The focus of SP Processum ́s work is on demonstration of the value chain and process from lignocellulosic feed stock to EtCl as a component in the chemical industry. Further work will include development of dissolving cellulose towards a quality that is suitable for applications within the field of cellulose ethers/esters.

SP Processum is also taking part in the mining industry demo in WP4 (Real scale demonstration of the circular value chain). SP Processum together with Luleå University of technology and Boliden mineral AB will demonstrate a remediation technique on high performance sealing layers based mixtures of Green liquor dregs and till. Furthermore the pulp and paper industry will take part through SP Processums vast network of industry partners in Sweden. To complete the value chain of green liquor dregs Swedish recycling companies interested in commercializing the technique will also take part.

Processum – Biorefinery development in close collaboration with industry from laboratory to demonstration scale for sustainable growth

Processum is owned by RISE Research institutes of Sweden (60 %) and Processum Interest Association (40 %), and is thus a subsidiary of the RISE group. Processum is a part of division RISE Bioeconomy. The company was started in 2003 and is situated in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. We support and initiate research and development within biorefinery. Together with other biorefinery initiatives, our cluster with partners from industry and academy constitutes an important hub for development of new products, processes and energy solutions from wood raw material and residual streams from the process industry. We cooperate with national as well as international partners.

Our competence and our pilot equipment make it possible to do development projects or produce substances for further development according to orders from different parties. We have access to large biorefinery area networks and can link new ideas with companies and academia in our networks.

The goal for our activities, and therefore our main responsibility, is that the results from our projects, step by step, contribute to an ever increasing amount of sustainable products and processes based on renewable raw material and residual streams in the process industry. These actions result in replacing fossil raw material for a greener alternative that is beneficial for the environment.

In the short and long term, apart from the technical part of our activities, we actively work to contribute to providing competence in chemistry and biorefinery through activities at different school grades, offering possibilities for thesis or short-term projects, visits etc.

In our own activities, diversity in terms of sex, age and origin is important as well as assistance to wellness support to our own staff.
